A (Not Bad) Look Back At 2020
Like Dick Clark's ball drop: excited, tired, and needing support
2020 IS COMING TO AN END!!
We all know that 2020 suuuuuuucked. For countless reasons. As a collective "we," we got lonely, we got sick, we got tired, we got angry, we got financially burdened, we got homesick, we got cabin fever, we got hungry. For a lot of things.
Not to get hokey, but we think a little good came out of this year too. We gained a new awareness of others, appreciation, and maybe some needed introspection. We became more active -- physically, politically, educationally, even culinarily.
We know 2021 won't automatically be a better year; it will take a lot of work. We need to band together -- even if it is still at a distance -- and build a better future for our brothers and sisters and ourselves.
So Say We All is ready to do the work, and we need your help. We would love to have you on board as a member or donor. Your support will help enable us to bring more voices to the stage, to the page, to the airwaves, the Interwebs, and anywhere else we can find an audience for your stories. As So We All expands its reach in 2021, we need you by our side.
We thought we'd take this opportunity to take a look back at what So Say We All did during 2020 with your help-- in spite of the year that will always be remembered as the year we might like to forget, especially the toilet paper part. The amazing people we met, the programs we made, and the ways we continued to work with you and have each other in our lives! For that, we're thankful. For that, we love 2020. And for that, we look forward to 2021 and all that's possible. Happy New Year, from So Say We All to you.
2020: The Year of the Digital Pivot
So Say We All is proud to have made the digital pivot in 2020, maintaining our programming -- and even adding NEW programs! -- in order to keep some sense of stability and consistency during this year of constant chaos. We've endured the same constraints you have, so we've made the best of it online. Here's how we did that this year:
The VAMP Storytelling Showcase is now open to international submissions as we all celebrate the power of stories together online. Submit to January's showcase here: https://sosayweallonline.submittable.com/submit/5108/january-vamp-storytelling-showcase-submissions
Long Story Short has been making friends all over the country and we're excited to wade into 2021! Don't forget to keep up with our Facebook page for the latest event updates: facebook.com/sosayweallonline
Submit your short films, music videos, comedy sketches, filmed storytelling, or whatever doesn't seem to fit anywhere, to our streaming show PUBLIC ACCESS, here: https://sosayweallonline.submittable.com/submit/163501/sswa-tv
You can always let us know which performances you'd love to see featured on "The VAMP Clip Show," on our social media pages. (See social links at the bottom of this newsletter.) You can also tell us via email at: info@sosayweallonline.com.
We brought to life some of the stories from our Black Candies literary horror anthologies, as part of La Jolla Playhouse's 2020 Digital Without Walls Series. Check it out here: https://lajollaplayhouse.org/wow-goes-digital/listen-with-the-lights-off/ Even more episodes are coming to you in February of 2021!
SSWA launched the Veteran Arts Department website; held Masterclass writing workshops for veterans, service members and family members; and secured an NEA/ Creative Forces grant to continue Veteran arts education in 2021.
